Mount Kenya Climbing NaroMoru-Chogoria route 5 Days

Day 01: Nairobi – Meteorological Station

Depart from Nairobi at 06.30am and drive through the central highlands and arrive in Naro Moru town at around 10.00 am. After a light lunch drive to the Naro Moru park gate (45 minutes drive) where the hiking starts. Walk through the rain forest for 9 km to the Met Station (3050 M) for dinner and overnight.

Day 02: Meteorological Station – Mackinders hut

Start the day at 07.00am for hike to Mackinders hut (4300 M) and walk through the rain forest and later on the wet moorland arriving at the huts in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Mackinders camp.

Day 03: Mackinders hut – American camp

After late breakfast, ascend to the Two Tarn and descend through the American camp for an acclimatization walk and head back to Mackinders for dinner and overnight.

Day 04: Mackinders hut – point Lenana – Mintos hut

Wake up at 02.00 am and start for the summit climb passing through the Austrian hut and then to point Lenana (4985 M) for sunrise. On a clear day, it is possible to see the Mount Kilimanjaro!. After a photographic session, descend to Mintos hut for breakfast and then further down to Meru Mount Kenya lodge bandas for dinner and overnight.

Day 05: lodge bandas – Nairobi

After breakfast, descend for 15 kms through the bamboo forest to where you get the 4WD vehicles waiting for you and then drive down to Chogoria town. From Chogoria town you board transport back to Nairobi where you arrive in the late afternoon.

General trekking information and recommended mountain clothing:

-Warm, windproof jacket with hood.
-Waterproof Jacket and over trousers.
-Walking trousers, shirts and pullover.
-Warm underwear.
-Walking socks.
-Good comfortable walking heavy boots.
-Training shoes (for evening).
-Gaiters, sun hat, warm hat or balaclava.
-Scarf, gloves, sun glasses.
-Sleeping bag.
-You can hire some of the equipment available at a reasonable cost.
